Dolby Headphone works with any audio source, and no special encoding is required. Dolby Headphone accomplishes the following: -Uses advanced pschoacoustics to produce virtual surround sound when listening to a 5.1 or 7.1 channel audio source (for example, 3D games and Blu-Ray/DVD discs). The multi-channel audio is reproduced by the headphones as the audio designer intended. -Applies Dolby ProLogic IIx processing to expand stereo and 5.1 audio sources into a virtual 7.1 surround sound experience. This "upmixing" uses algorithms to give audio a more spacious, enveloping sound. It’s the same Dolby ProLogic technology that’s commonly found in home audio. -Simulates the sound of listening to audio on speakers in a room, so the audio doesn’t seem like it’s coming from "in your head." Research has shown that this helps eliminate "head fatigue." The effect is more subtle than digital audio expanders that mimic the effect of listening to a live band in a concert hall, club, and so on. Rather than simulate the effect of the sound sources being far away, it instead simulates the effect of listening to music on speakers that are several feet away, rather than millimeters from your ears. In other words, the experience is more like listening to audio sitting on your sofa in your living room. You can use the HS1 control panel software to enable, disable, and customize each feature.
