FOREX MARKET
The dollar weakened against the euro on September 21st, as the US Philly Fed for September declined sharply to -0.4,
below 0 for the first time in last three years, and vs. 14.0 expected. The pair rallied from 1.2680 to 1.2800 zone
yesterday. On Friday, the greenback looks even more bearish as for the moment it is traded in the 1.2800-1.2825 area.
However, we need to see 1.2860 resistance level broken before we could decide on an upward trend for the euro.
Friday's sharp rise of the euro vs. RON caught off guard the Romanian market, as the recent rally of the single
currency seemed to have smoothened yesterday. EUR/RON was traded in a tight range between 3.5240-3.5310 levels
amid calm forex session. On Friday, the domestic market opened at 3.5280 level and within several minutes the pair
broke the 3.5500 resistance zone. In the first hour of trading, the pair soared until 3.5730 level on the back of new
capital outflows caused by increasing regional political uncertainty. The worsening sentiment of offshore investors
towards emerging markets triggered the decline of RON by 1.2% in early trading. By noontime, the spirits have
cooled down a bit and the pair is bided between 3.5630-3.5660 levels.
MONEY MARKET
The overnight interest rates remained in the 1-3% zone on Friday as the RON surplus continues to persist in the last
day of the reserve period.
