FOREX MARKET
On August 25th, the market remained bullish on greenback although the much-expected speech of Bernanke failed to
give any clues regarding FED's future monetary policy. The EUR/USD dropped until 1.2724 level as some of the
players took his silence for an indecision of FED's chairman. However, this optimism lasted within several hours as
some investors opened new positions on euro. Therefore, the pair is being traded in the 1.2810 area in the European
session. We expect a silent trading, as there are no major releases scheduled for today.
The Romanian currency ended the week slightly higher in the 3.5250 zone on back of improving sentiment of
investors towards emerging markets.
On August 28th, the market turned bullish on the RON, the more so as there are no signs of further tightening from
the Federal Reserve, whereas the commercial banks in Romania are up on hiking the deposits' interest rates since
NBR has raised the ratio of the minimum reserves to the RON denominated liabilities. Therefore, it is likely that the
domestic interest rates will remain RON supportive in the medium run.
MONEY MARKET
The overnight deposits are traded for 8.25-9.25% yields on the domestic interbank market, as the commercial banks
maintain their policy of keeping higher liquidities at NBR at the beginning of the reserve period.
