FOREX MARKET
The Leu has gained more than 100 pips yesterday, versus the Euro, in line with the evolution of other emerging market's currencies, which have also made slight gains. The EUR/RON has opened at 3.5940 and climbed only to 3.5980 in the first
two trading hours. Then the selling orders started to outnumber the buyings and the pair descended to a low of 3.5780,
closing at 3.5800.
Today the market has opened with bids of 3.5800. In the first trading minutes the Euro has been bought to a maximum of
3.5850 and now the EUR/RON stands at 3.5820-3.5830. Expectations that short term yields for RON will increase at the
beginning of next week, due to a new minimum reserve period starting then, should provide support to the Leu until Friday.
Yesterday the EUR/USD has ranged between 1.2500 and 1.2550, waiting for the release of the US Net Foreign Security
Purchases figure, which shows by how much the buying of US securities by foreigners is covering the US trade deficit.
Although the data came out better than expected, at USD 69 bio versus USD 56 bio, the Dollar was initially sold to 1.2559.
Later in US trade however, the pair dropped to a minimum of 1.2473. Bids currently range between 1.2490 and 1.2510.
MONEY MARKET
On the money market, average quotations for O/N deposits have stood yesterday at 0.5/3% on average. Today, as demand
for RON is decreasing towards the end of the NBR minimum reserve period, asks have decreased slightly, with the averages
being 0.5/2.5%.
