FOREX MARKET
On Wednesday, the single currency stood flat within the same levels as the day before, as the sentiment of investors
regarding European emerging markets improved lately a bit. Therefore, EUR/RON ranged between 3.5550-3.5730
levels in quiet domestic trading.
On July 13th, the opening bids stood in the 3.5780 zone, but shortly afterwards EUR/RON climbed until 3.5940 area.
However euro couldn't keet its gains and quotes fell to 3.5800 zone until noon.
US Trade Balance was released yesterday, which proved to be better than expected and gave some support for the
greenback. US trade deficit came out at USD -63.8bln vs. USD -64.9bln the consensus estimate and sent the USD
higher to 1.2673 the most. However, today the dollar lost some of yesterday's gains, as for the moment it is traded in
the 1.2730 zone. It seems that trade data did not make a strong impression to the market which looks prudent for the
time being waiting for tomorrows Bank of Japan decision.
MONEY MARKET
Rates continue to fall due to the high liquidity on the Romanian money market, as O/N rates reached 4-6% zone
today. The National Bank holds today a CD auction for three-month tenors intending to draw RON 1.6bln from the
market. Considering the past experience, NBR is unlikely to accept higher bids than its monetary rate, presently at
8.75%. We expect short term rates to go even lower tomorrow, as RON 3.8bln CD's will mature on Friday.
