FOREX MARKET
In correlation with fresh exits from neighboring emerging markets, the EUR/RON has made another spike yesterday, reaching
3.5480. The pair opened at 3.5250 and in the first three hours of the session advanced 230 pips, to the above high. Then sellers
gradually took over and until the end of the day the Leu had recovered almost all the lost ground, closing at 3.5290.
Today volatility is lower, as the Euro has traded so far in a much smaller band, between 3.5240 and 3.5300. The market
opened at roughly 3.53, and afterwards yesterday�s selling resumed until 3.5240, where the market has stabilized. The Euro is
now bided at RON 3.5250-60.
Yesterday, the Dollar made a fresh 2-months high against the Euro, at 1.2530. The Euro attempted to stage a more extended
retracement of the move down from 1.2780, however stopped just short of reaching 1.2620. Then, in US trading the pair was
sold back down, and remained in the 1.2550 area until this morning, when it has climbed to 1.2580. Any price move before
3:30pm today is inconclusive however, as then the US Consumer Price Index figures will be released. Investors, particularly
those involved in US equity markets, will be waiting to see if the Index validates recent inflation fears, in which case the Fed
will be more inclined to increase Dollar interest rates and therefore the EUR/USD could fall below 1.2510.
MONEY MARKET
Over-night rates on the Romanian market stand at the same 8/9% average. Asks rarely fall under 8.75% however, as players
are waiting for a possible CDs auction from the NBR to take place this week.
