FOREX MARKET
The EUR/RON market has become increasingly volatile in the last 5 days, with the temperature toping today, when the opening
stood 350 pips from the last close.
Yesterday, the retracement of the move from 3.4550 to 3.5550 has continued. The Euro opened at RON 3.5100 and was sold until
noon to a low of 3.4875. Just below 3.50 however strong buying interest has surfaced from many important players and the pair was
taken back up to 3.5100.
Today the Euro took off from the first minutes of the trading session, opening directly at 3.5450, with a gap of 350 pips from
yesterday's close. One of the reasons for this move is an anticipation of strong buying to occur today. After sellers took advantage of
the initial level and the rate decreased to 3.53, buyers appeared and currently the Euro is bided at 3.5320.
On the international market, the dollar made a show of force yesterday, after the US consumer prices advanced more than forecasted,
by 0.3% m/m. This increase was sparked by record energy prices and is paving the way for further rate hikes by the Fed. Following
the news, the EUR/USD hit the resistance at 1.2920 and then plunged to as low as 1.27. The support at 1.2680 can give way for
1.2600 but first we are expecting further consolidation, with the pair currently at 1.2800.
The yields for O/N RON deposits have fallen to 5.5/7.5%. The money market opened at 6.5/8% and lenders than lowered their
demands, possibly expecting further decreases towards the end of the minimum reserve period.
MONEY MARKET
RON O/N rates have decreased today to 7.8/8.8% from 8/9% yesterday. The decrease comes on the settlement date of the strong
RON selling by the banksᬠ clients that occurred two days ago.
