FOREX MARKET
Yesterday, the Euro tried to no effect to regain part of the ground lost on Friday. The EUR/RON opened at 3.4610 and in
morning trading, buyers, happy with this year's low, took the pair to 3.4650. At this level the selling pressure reappeared and
the pair went gradually down to 3.4540. Than in a quiet second half of the trading day, the EUR closed slightly up, at RON
3.4580.
Today the market opened at yesterday of the US Consumer Confidence index, which came out 109.6 versus 106 expected, the Dollar
rallied against the Euro from 1.2430 to 1.2365. The rally proved to be short lived however and before the end of yesterday's
trading the EUR/USD returned near the 1.2440 resistance. Today the pair is traded in the 1.2400-1.2440 zone. The release in
the afternoon of the Durable Goods Orders figure, if lower than the forecasts, can give way for 1.2480.
The interbank RON O/N rates have increased by roughly 0.25% in today's morning trading, following yesterday's NBR
auction. Bids stand at around 8%, while lenders are asking 8.75-9%. At yesterday's depo auction, the National Bank withdrew
RON 6.5 million of the market at 8.5%.
MONEY MARKET
With the new NBR reserve period under way, RON O/N rates are back up to 7.75/8.75%. The RON deposits are rarely offered
at 8.5, as borrowers take into consideration also a possible auction to be held by the National Bank.
