FOREX MARKET
The EUR/RON rate descended for most of yesterday's trading session. The pair opened at 3.6330 and steadily
went down and stopped at 3.6210, just short of the support at 3.6210. At this level, buying interest appeared
and the market closed at 3.6270.
Today the Euro opened at RON 3.6250, buyers took it rapidly to 3.6310 and then the pair stabilized at 3.6270,
yesterday's closing. Buyers can become a constant presence in the next days, with demand for foreign
currency being strong from banks and commercial clients as well.
The EUR/USD has ranged in the past 24 hours between 1.2250 and 1.2300. As the move up from 1.2100 has
been very steep, the market needs new incentives to whether drive the pair through the support at 1.2250 or
further up above 1.2320. The German IFO business index and US housing data will by made available today
and they might provide the boost needed for a sharper move.
MONEY MARKET
Yesterday banks started paying 3.5-4% on the interbank market for RON O/N deposits, with the start of the
new NBR reserve period. Asks have stood at 6-7%. Today the money market opened at 3/6% for O/N
deposits. Soon however, borrowers started bidding and the interest rates climbed another percentage point to
4/7%.
