FOREX MARKET
It looks like the market still wants more USD, as the EUR/USD failed to break the 1.8030 resistance on
Wednesday as well. Yesterday, the EUR/USD ranged in the 1.1700-1.1800 area, as there were no major
events on the international market, except the US Consumer Credit for October which dropped by the largest
amount ever. On Thursday, the EUR/USD remained rangebound in the same area as yesterday, so we
maintain the 1.1730 support and 1.1830 resistance.
On December 7th, the euro rallied against the Ron until 3.6600, then the euro depreciated slightly to 3.6510
level, when a substantial selling order coming from a corporate client took the exchange rate to 3.6420. The
EUR/RON remained in the 3.6420-3.6450 area for the rest of the trading day. Today, the local forex market
opened at 3.6450 level, but soon the euro lost even more ground as the quotes fell until 3.6330, the lowest.
The situation looks favorable for the local currency which might firm even more, as the imports season
ended.
MONEY MARKET
As the surplus of Rons diminished substantially on the money market, there is no need for the National Bank
to organize a depo auction in the near run. The ON interest rates maintain at 6-7.5% levels and also the
liquidity was rather low this week. If the situation doesn�t improve on the inter-bank market, the commercial
banks might increase the interest rates for their client's deposits.
