FOREX MARKET
Yesterday, we could witness the rally of the euro against the USD, as a raise of the interest rates by the ECB
becomes more probable as time goes on. During the overnight session, the yields for the US bonds dropped
inducing even more weakness for the greenback. The EUR/USD went as high as 1.2077, however during the
European forex session the pair lost some pips. For Friday, we expect the USD to recover from its recent
losses and approach the 1.1950 support.
The domestic forex market remained calm on Thursday, with low volatility and moderate volumes of
transactions. The EUR/RON exchange rate moved within 3.5950-3.6080 range, but most of the day the quotes
stood around 3.6030-3.6050. On Friday, the trading session began at 3.6020, announcing an enforcement of
the European currency due to the buying orders placed in the market. By noon, the pair climbed as far as
3.6140 giving way for some further gains for the euro.
MONEY MARKET
Although the NBR did not initiate any sterilization action, the situation on the inter-bank market seems to have
improved a bit, as the ON interest rates rose to 1.3-2%. On having a glance at the domestic money market, we
can notice that the volumes of the daily depo deals made this week increased as compared to the past weeks
when the commercial banks preferred the facility placements at NBR.
