The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning este primul joc din trilogia The Legend of Spyro si a fost dezvoltat de Krome Studios pentru PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube si de Game Boy Advance in colaborare cu Amaze Entertainment pentru Nintendo DS.In Legend Of Spyro: New Begin, Spyro pleaca spre taramul sau natal pentru a afla mai multe despre originea si identitatea sa.De indata ce afla ca taramul sau natal a cazut in mainile lui Dark Master si a slujitorului sau, Cynder ( un dragon negru malefic ), obiectivul lui Spyro devine eliberarea locului sau natal de sub asuprirea acestora. Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning este un joc tipic pe platforma 3D axat pe lupta cu inamicii. Toodata ai tot felul de enigmele ce trebuiesc rezolvate . Trecand de la un nivel la altul, peisajul se schimba : zapada, vulcani, castele vechi, ruine, spatiul cosmic si nu in ultimul rand, clasica urmarire plina de actiune dintr-o mina la bordul unui vagonet. In afara privirii peisajelor si explorarii, jocul este axat pe lupta dintre Spyro si hoardele de inamici. Veti patrunde de multe ori in zone pline cu adversari, pe care nu le veti putea parasi decat atunci cand toti vor fi doborati. Cand porneste pentru prima data in aventura sa, Spyro nu are o prea mare inclinatie catre lupta. Aceasta lucru se schimba insa treptat, Spyro invatad sa-si creasca puterea cu ajutorul pietrelor pretioase.Totodata va invata atacuri care ii vor permite sa scuipe flacari, gheata, electricitate si chiar pamant. Cand indicatorul pentru furie va va arata maximul, veti putea declansa un atac devastator care va dobori orice inamic din imediata apropiere. Vocea lui Spyro este interpretata de Elijah Wood, Gary Oldman interpreteaza vocea batranului dragon Ignitus, iar David Spade pe cea a prietenului lui Spyro pe nume Sparx.
