General description of the Sierra T400S shear / baler / logger
In the world of scrap metal processing, equipment value and capability are essential to a profitable business, and the Sierra T400S delivers on both counts.
A 400S ton shear, baler and logger that s sized perfectly for cost-conscious operators. From its rugged self-framed construction, to its automated shearing, baling and logging cycles, the Sierra 400S incorporates features found in machines much more costly.
Our highly efficient hydraulic and power unit allow our customers to prepare their material with a very low cost per ton ratio. This means a higher operational margin and a higher profit.
The production capacity of this machine is unique for a machine of this segment.
Power unit
The advanced Sierra technology enables us to reach high production levels with only a 146 HP engine. This translates into low processing costs.
The power unit of all Sierra machines has been designed in such a way that the least
possible amount of energy is needed to obtain the highest possible output ratio.
The machine is diesel driven.

Hydraulic unit
The T400S shear, baler and logger uses top of the line Rexroth pumps, components and a Denison distributor block. This combination guarantees the best possible speed with low energy consumption.
A combination of a Rexroth variable displacement pump with a Denison vane pump is found on all Sierra shears. The Denison pump is used for low pressure and speed (return of all cylinders) while the Rexroth will work when pressure and speed is needed. This combination has proven to be very efficient and has been adopted on the vast majority of our products.
The distributor block is PLC controlled in order to enable best possible performance.

Ergonomic controls and a unique self diagnostic system enable a reliable and fast
operation of the T400S
The unparalleled superiority of the Allen Bradley PLC (Rockwell group) has proven to be the most reliable PLC in the industry. It is particularly well suited for the scrap yard environment where vibrations, dirt, dust and humidity prove to be fatal to most electronic systems.
Valves are controlled by the PLC in order to give the best possible performance.
The control panel is situated on the cabin which contains all electrical components of the machine. This unit is located inside the operators cabin.
Charging box
The unique Sierra charging box design enable to size material quickly and to close
the box without losing precious time.
The production capacity of any shear is determined by the amount of time needed to
closed the charging box.
All Sierra charging boxes are fully lined with thick Hardox 400 plates.

Due to the curved lid design the volume of the open box is bigger than any other competing product.
Three cylinders per lid give the T400S ample force to size any kind of material.
The hinges are never exposed to scrap when the box is closed. This is the case on most competing machines.
Replacement of the hinges is a very expensive and time consuming issue. Downtime of weeks must be calculated for this repair.
With the unique Sierra design replacement is not necessary as hinges are not subject to wear.
The hydraulic stabilizers are built in such a way that the machine can be easily lifted on a trailer.
The solid and heavy electro welded structure has to meet very strict quality control
procedures. All welds are checked by ultrasound in order to assure a long lifetime.
Shearhead
This solid construction contains the hold down clamp and the guillotine.
Both moving parts are automatically lubricated.
The most important components of any shear are the hold down clamp and the guillotine. Sierra protects these parts by using bronze replaceable liner plates.
Only this system will guarantee a long life time to these important components.
